This cross-sectional exploratory study aimed to identify potential factors associated with the risk of falls in community-dwelling individuals aged 60 years or older, of both sexes, residing in the southwestern region of Bahia, Brazil. The sample consisted of 218 participants. The association between the risk of falls and independent variables (sociodemographic factors and health conditions) was assessed through statistical analysis, with a significance level of less than 20% (p ≥ 0.20) for inclusion in the Poisson regression model, using robust estimates of prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). The prevalence of fall risk among participants was 68.3%. The study found that absence of frailty (PR = 0.66; 95% CI = 0.55–0.81; p < 0.001) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) (PR = 1.63; 95% CI = 1.16–2.28; p < 0.01) were significantly associated with fall risk. These findings indicate a negative association between the absence of frailty and fall risk, and a positive association between IADL performance and fall risk in older adults.
