Society is marked by industrialization and technological development, which is why education for the sustainability of the planet is seen as an essential factor to be taken into account in the education of new generations. The repercussions of human conduct on the environment emphasize the importance of the role that schools must play in raising children's awareness of the value of the environment and respect for it, without, of course, pushing them to the extremes of exacerbated activism, which would, in practice, mean a profound step backwards for civilization. It is thought that a process of raising awareness about environmental issues should begin in childhood, allowing for a healthy relationship with the Other and with the environment that surrounds us. It is also considered that literature for children, specifically illustrated books, is very important in the formation of the subject and, specifically, children's contact with books whose central theme addresses environmental aspects will foster their awareness of a balanced and rational sustainability. Using a corpus of texts recommended by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), the aim is to show how literature is a privileged means of promoting learning that leads to a balanced understanding of issues related to environmental sustainability.References
