Abstract

The paper aims to present the research work associated with the consolidation of the Living Usability Lab (LUL), an ecosystem devoted to the development of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems and services. The paper refers the motivations behind the development of LUL and presents its goals and its constituent entities: i) stakeholders; ii) methodological approaches; iii) applications; iv) development platform and v) logical and physical infrastructure. In particular, it presents the Living Usability Lab methodology, which aims the active involvement of potential end users and other stakeholders in all phases of the AAL systems and services development in order to optimize them in terms of usability, effectiveness and acceptance.   • Alexandre Queirós, Universidade de Aveiro
    Nelson Pacheco da Rocha é professor catedrático da Secção Autónoma de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade de Aveiro e investigador do Instituto de Engenharia Eletrónica e Telemática de Aveiro. Obteve a licenciatura em Engenharia Eletrónica e Telecomunicações, em 1983, e o doutoramento em Engenharia Eletrotécnica, em 1992, pela Universidade de Aveiro. Foi presidente da Comissão Coordenadora do Centro de Informática e Comunicações (1992-1998), Diretor da Escola Superior de Saúde da Universidade de Aveiro (2001-2011) e Pró-reitor da Universidade de Aveiro (2005-2010). Desde 2001, é o Diretor da Secção Autónoma de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade de Aveiro. Os seus interesses de investigação incluem a aplicação das tecnologias de informação aos serviços de saúde e de âmbito social, o uso secundário de registos eletrónicos de saúde, e a interdependência da funcionalidade humana com os serviços Ambient Assisted Living.
