THE MEANING OF MYSTIC AS A MST’ CULTURAL PERFORMANCE

Abstract

From the studies accomplished by Schechner and Turner is possible talk about cultural performances. Both authors concluded works contributing to discussions on cultural performances through the anthropology of experience. Consequently, this work aims to understand the mystic of MST as a cultural performance of the social movement, proposing to bring the customs and workers social values connected to this organization. This leads us to understand the historical process of action from other social organizations that contributed to the cultural practices expressed by the MST through the work of their activism. In this way, this paper also seeks to understand how the mystic in the MST can be considered a cultural performance in which landless workers manifests their desires and indignation. For the approach about the MST mystic, this text is supported by discussion made by Bogo in the work “O Vigor da Mística’, as well as other authors whom make reference to the subject, which address elements that enable to idealize mystic as a performance. The thoughts of these authors give subsidy to better understand the cultural expressions of the subjects as cultural performances. This is the case to understand the mystic as a cultural practice of the MST. Therefore a performance that contributes to the process of social struggle of the landless organization.
