The purpose of this study was to identify methods and strategies that allow us to effectively teach deaf students. To this end, we sought to learn about materials and resources, through listening to teachers, their opinions and suggestions, through semi-structured interviews, as well as observation of classes, in different teaching cycles, and analysis of official documents considered relevant for the study, namely planning. As a complement to the research, the training needs of the interviewed teachers, in the area of special education in which they teach, were recognized for deaf students. This is a study of a qualitative nature, having chosen to study the particular case of a reference group in the north of Portugal. From the information collected we can conclude that the methodology is centered on bilingual teaching, using equally all forms of communication, including lip reading, body expression and the gestural alphabet. In turn, the strategies used focused on visual and bilingual resources, built by teachers, especially multimedia and interactive.Downloads
