This article, resulting from the research carried out in the master's dissertation, combines the importance of the role of the environmental educator, focusing on how to develop an educational project that promotes environmental awareness, supporting us, for this, in a work of literature for children. Thus, one of the learning experiences among those promoted in a 4th grade class of the 1st cycle of basic education is documented, narrating the process and the results. We intended to implement, in loco, strategies that would allow us to increase the environmental awareness of the children involved in the study and collect data that would allow us to assess their attitudes and behaviors towards the environment. We started from the following objective: To know the children's conceptions about environmental problems, before and after the exploration of a history of literature for children. Direct and participant observation was used as a data collection technique, and the children's productions and panel interviews were used as instruments. For data analysis, we resorted to content analysis, following the guidelines of Bardin (2014). Our study allowed concluded that there is still intense work to be developed in schools, at the level of Basic Education, so that future citizens develop behaviors in line with the construction of ecological awareness and responsible citizenship, to preserve the environment.Downloads
