Not consider the cultural diversity and legitimate a hegemonic culture as the truth seems to be one control strategy used in school. So, this article aims to analyze the relation between cultures and control mechanisms. For this purpose, we used the bibliographic research as methodology and some cuts were made to meet the purpose of the article. The genesis of the hegemonic culture occurs in the 18th century, with the Age of Enlightenment. As the time passed by, these knowledge articulated with another discourses, creating a culture that permeates different social institutions in our historic period, including the school. Beyond the marginalization of other cultures, the hegemonic culture can function as a control mechanism in a series of actions that take place in school, mainly referring to the nontolerance of the different cultures and the people transit there. Analyze the cultural dynamics in the school environment, emphasizing the relation between hegemonic and peripheral cultures as control mechanisms can be a good initial strategy to education staff who are initiating their studies, aiming a better comprehension of the cultural practices that take place at school.Downloads
