Smart cities are urban areas that use technology, data, and innovation to improve quality of life, promote sustainability, and optimize urban services. According to the 2024 Connected Smart Cities Ranking, the city of Salvador/BA is the 10th smartest city in Brazil. This position was achieved due to the implementation of initiatives that modernized management processes, the public services offered, and the city’s infrastructure. That said, this research seeks to answer the following question: Which initiatives implemented in Salvador contributed to the transformation of the city into a Smart City? This study identified which initiatives implemented in Salvador contributed to the transformation of the city into a Smart City. The research is classified as descriptive and qualitative in nature, using websites and documents as data sources. The findings revealed that Salvador implemented the use of electronic transport tickets, mobility service applications, smart traffic lights, smart cameras, strategic programs, the preparation of the Master Plan for Smart City Technologies, the creation of the Municipal Secretariat for Innovation and Technology, and the creation of innovation spaces.
