Resumo

Uma compreensão hermenêutica do trauma cultural, interpretando-o como um processo interminável de intervenção e construção de significado, infere que as próximas gerações continuarão a reconhecer as mágoas do passado como momentosas. Gerações subsequentes, apesar de não serem contemporâneas aos eventos em questão, continuam a reconhecer, expressar e admitir as feridas do passado por meio de algo que ilumina sua identidade como grupo no presente. Neste artigo, as ramificações para a saúde mental do Trauma, discutindo o incidente de 11 de setembro, estão sendo discutidas. Ser perturbador e onipresente, ou seja, indelével, são as características centrais para que um trauma seja considerado trauma, tanto nos níveis psicológico quanto cultural, já que os efeitos de longo prazo do trauma "nas memórias de um indivíduo se assemelham aos efeitos duradouros do trauma nacional na consciência coletiva". Descartar ou ignorar a experiência traumática não é uma opção razoável.
