The objective of this study is to understand the perception of multidisciplinary residents regarding their role in the development and applicability of patient safety principles. This is a qualitative study. We used the Collective Subject Discourse methodological framework to analyze the data, and key expressions and central ideas were extracted from the interviews to categorize the information. Five categories emerged: teamwork and safety culture, individual conduct, quality and safety, the resident's role, changes from the first to the second year of residency, and patient safety principles in professional life. The statements demonstrate that the participants understand patient safety and value continuing education, humanized care, and teamwork, providing elements that spark reflection on how these should be conducted in their training process.
